Art Club The purpose of the Art Club is to provide students with an opportunity to express and experience art through various media not possible in a classroom setting. MSC is visually enhanced by the promotion within the school of an aesthetic awareness, encouraging artistic vision. Billiards Club The Billiards Club meets twice a month, promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship, as well as providing healthy competition and socialization. Club meetings are informal. Computer Club The Computer Club, which is open to all grades, enables students to learn new applications such as word processing, data base management, and spreadsheet. In addition, advanced students are able to practice and share their skills in creative programming. Drama Clubs The drama clubs are organized on two levels, junior high and senior high. Both the MSC Jr. High Players and the Senior Drama Club present two plays a year. Students are encouraged to participate in all aspects of a production, from costume and set preparation, to sound and lights, to acting. The theater experience provides a student with an opportunity to learn about the importance of responsibility, interdependence, and cooperation. Environmental Club Environmental Club provides extended opportunities for students interested in science. Activities are planned and coordinated by three student committees: environment; biology/medicine; and physical science (physics, engineering, aerospace, chemistry). Participation in field trips, environmental projects, and the RI Science Olympiad as well as expanded awareness provided by guest lecturers and films encompass some of the means by which the Science Club attempts to accomplish its goal. Excelsior Club This service organization seeks to provide service activities for the students interested in reaching out to those in need. Its service initiatives include Blood Drives and Christmas gifts. Foreign Language Club This Club offer students the opportunity for a cultural awareness different from their own. It offers students the chance to utilize the Spanish and the French language in various activities throughout the year. History Roundtable This club offers students a chance to analyze important events from the past using a debate format, providing them an opportunity to learn from history and improve their skills as public speakers. Junior High National Honor Society A service organization comprised of seventh and eighth graders who have a career grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 and who have been successfully evaluated on qualities of leadership, service and character. The Junior High NHS provides service to the school, to their peers and to the community. Math Club Mount St. Charles Academy is a member of the Rhode Island Math League and the Catholic High School Math League. The junior high belongs to the New England Math League. Competitions in contests, as well as the American High School Exam, provide an opportunity to refine mathematical skills. Model Legislature MSC participates in the Rhode Island Model Legislature program, which provides a hands-on approach to the study of state government. Students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to create, debate and enact model legislation and take on the roles of senators, representatives, and lobbyists. Students have the opportunity to compete on a state level for leadership positions. Music Ministry Students willing to share their gifts of singing and playing musical instruments join to work in conjunction with the Office of Campus Ministry. They help provide music and singing under the direction of their moderator for school liturgies and prayer services. National Honor Society A service organization comprised of sophomores, juniors and seniors who have a career grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 and who have been successfully evaluated on qualities of leadership, service and character. NHS provides a peer-tutoring program, hosts the annual Open House, and provides service at many other events. Student Administrative Council Student Administrative Council (S.A.C.) is established in order to provide an organized group of persons working to create an atmosphere of friendship, unity, and cooperative participation of all students of the Academy. The council plans, organizes and conducts social activities for the entire school community, and over sees the activities of individual classes. The Hilltopper School Newspaper Published on a regular basis, the school newspaper informs the student body of the progress of school activities, sports and outstanding individuals in various events. Youth Electing Sobriety The Mount chapter of Y.E.S. is a positive support organization that advocates the importance of life and informs students about the reality of substance abuse. It is open to students in grades 7-12. Its goal is to participate in activities of the Rhode Island area that publicize the dangers of substance abuse. |
