| Parent Involvement | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

At the heart of the educational philosophy of Mount is the belief that we work in partnership with families in the formation of their children. To that end, we provide a number of modes whereby a parent can become involved in the formation of their child throughout their years at Mount. Although the high school years are normally when parents are less involved as their children become more independent, the school community seeks to involve parents in ways that can support the school community and their children. Parents' Council Unlike other school-based parent organizations, the focus of the Mount Saint Charles Parents' Council is the fostering of the school community. To that end, the Council sponsors a single major fundraiser, the Used Book Sale, to both provide funds for its other activities and to provide a service to parents. Throughout the rest of the year the Parents' Council supports the school community by providing a range of services including welcoming new parents, providing a school directory for all families, sponsoring Family Day as part of Catholic Schools Week, and providing hospitality at Open House, New Parent Night, Teacher Appreciation, and Graduation as well as many other events. Supporting School Programs Numerous parents, based on their interests, also become involved in a variety of school programs. Athletic teams and the performing arts have great support from parents who organize fundraising activities and coordinate events such as the Pops Concert, cheerleading competitions, and the Christmas Hockey Tournament. In each case, the parents volunteer their time to support the school community and their children through these programs and events. A single major student fundraiser occurs each year in which we ask for the support of parents and students. The Walkathon is always specifically focused on an element of capital development and consistently, due to the support of parents and students, has brought in over $100,000 annually. We encourage parents to become active participants in the Mount experience. Academically, report nights, awards ceremonies and events such as Honor Society induction and Science Fair provide opportunities for parents to support their children and the wider school community. Faith development experiences such as retreats and communion breakfasts can provide other ways for parents to demonstrate their commitment to and support of their child and the school. Co-curricular activities such as sporting events, concerts, plays and other performances provide other opportunities for parental involvement. |
